Ambassador Feature - Bear Treadway

We've recently started an ambassador program where we team up with some amazing folks that line up with Overland Empire. People who are out going on adventures, building overland rigs, or exploring this great planet. We'll be running features on these ambassadors here, starting with the one and only Bear Treadway.

Bear has always been one of our favorite explorers. Originally from Alaska, she grew up in several states across the US and now calls Washington home. She'd call herself an amateur photographer, but her work shows skill that's anything but amateur. The striking compositions of mountains and landscapes don't always tell the full story: that Bear is climbing and exploring every bit of what she shoots. You can check out beartreadway.com to learn more.

The other day we did a little Q&A with Bear to get things started:

OE: How old are you? Bear: I'll be 24 for another month.

Where were you born? Fairbanks, Alaska

When did you get the itch to explore? We've spent the majority of my life moving from place to place and outdoors. Outside of that, watching my father return from distant places built a curiosity in me.

Where's your favorite place that you've been so far? New Zealand.

Why? Even in the hard days, everything felt right. I never wanted to be anywhere but where I was.

You leave for Ecuador in a couple days (she's actually there now)—what made you want to visit Ecuador? Ecuador stood out because it was a good season for climbing and beaches. A bit of two worlds in one trip.

What's next after Ecuador? Immediately after Ecuador, I will make my way to Peru. Most of my time here will be spent in different sections of the Andes mountains. Later this year I'm also looking forward to a trip to India & Nepal.

Where do you dream of going one day? Outside of going home to climb Denali, my biggest dream would be Pakistan and Mongolia. The Karakoram mountains draw me in, but through all the landscapes, culture, and uncertainty it has a pull.

One thing you couldn't live without? The outdoors. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't play outside.

Favorite food on the trail? Vegan burritos! Nothing better.

Favorite food when you're not on the trail? Pizza, blueberries, and bananas.

If you weren't exploring, what would you be doing? Trying new things. Recently finding an excitement for snowboarding and rock climbing.

Learn more about our ambassador program here, and if you're interested in joining the team you can fill out the entry form there too. And as always, tag your photos with #overlandempire to join the Empire.

    Hello Overland-

We are traveling from Alaska to Argentina in our 1975 VW bus. We are huge supporters of creating community around overland travel lifestyle and are interested in what being an ambassador for you guys looks like. You reposted a photo of ours a while back, so check out our instagram @thebusandus or blog thebusandus.com to see if it looks like our adventure would match your company message.
    Cheers!
